Mike Portnoy's a douche. .-. He left the band and has the balls to accuse them of "wrongfully excluding" him from the band? I mean, I know Mike Portnoy's been portrayed as a controlling force in the band, but this (if there isn't something we don't know about) is on another level.

New Mastodon album in it's entirety.
Pretty good. Not their strongest release, but not their worst either (although "worst" is still pretty damn good for Mastodon). Liking it more than Crack the Skye, maybe on par with Remission. But Leviathan and Blood Mountain are still Mastodon's best albums by far. The Hunter is probably their catchiest song to date though.
Highlights for me were Dry Bone Valley, The Hunter, and Curl of the Burl. The rest of the songs were typical Mastodon, which is damn good.
THAT SAID. Creature Lives is the worst Mastodon song in their whole discography. Completely ruins the flow of the album and just doesn't sound good. But they bounce back right after that with a pretty good song.

*goes fishing through Jeph Jacques' last.fm Library for new bands to listen to*
*checks out this band called Arsis*
*gets face pounded into dust*
Pretty good melo tech death. Vocals are a little eh though. It's kinda what you'd get if someone was halfway between a death growl and a metalcore shriek I'd say.
Also listened to (aside from Arsis' album A Celebration of Guilt, which was pretty good) Kvelertak's album Kvelertak, which I enjoyed a lot. Hardcore punkish vocals aren't really my thing, but man to Kvelertak lay down some catchy riffs.
And right now am listening to stoner metal band High On Fire's album Snakes For the Divine. Not bad so far. The vocalist takes a few minutes to get used to but he's not bad once you get used to it.

Gep. I have found Chthonic, a black metal band from Taiwan that the fine lads at Encyclopaedia Metallum like. Absolutely blew my mind, so I searched up on Wikipedia about the metal scenes in East Asia. Apparently there's a massive metal scene in Taiwan and a fairly large black metal scene in China. Blew my mind because metal bands (or bands in general) from Asia don't typically get recognition in the West.
I'm totes going to check out their album Seediq Bale (the band is classified as Melodic Black Metal) after I'm done listening Tombs' Winter Hours. :U
Has a real symphonic/melodic quality (helped in heaps with the fantastic keyboard and operatic female vocals) to it, absolutely fantastic production, and is damn good. I'm amazed that there's metal in Taiwan, let alone metal this good.

Actually, the band I posted is from Taiwan, but yeah, there's a pretty big black metal scene in China. I am amazed that black metal exists outside of northern Europe and America.

By the way, I heard some of one of the songs from the Lulu album by Metallica and Lou Reed. My opinion? It sucks, but if you're into that avant-garde stuff you might like it. But for the average Metallica fan, stay away.
On the other hand, Megadeth's songs sound brilliant. So hey, that's nice

I listened to the first ten seconds of that song Metallica/Lou Reed released from Lulu.
My reaction:
And I didn't care for that new Megadeth song, Public Enemy No. 1. Sounded like a rejected B-side from the Rust in Peace days. Although, any song that sounds like it's from the Rust in Peace days is doing something right. Gotta check out the second song released from the new album.
Also, Megadeth's going to be touring with Motorhead, Lacuna Coil, and Volbeat next year. FINALLY, a lineup that isn't complete trash aside from Megadeth (Motorhead's classic and Lacuna Coil's decent enough, dunno about Volbeat though, but I've heard they're pretty good). Totally going to see them if they're coming to town.
Listening to the new Megadeth song Never Dead. This song I'm really digging. Much better than Public Enemy No. 1.
Anyways, is it just me, or does Megadeth's music provide the perfect soundtrack for the month of October? Seriously. The second October 1st hits and all of a sudden I'm in a Megadeth mood. Also, now listening to Endgame by Megadeth. Can't believe I didn't care for this album the first time I checked it out. Really digging songs like Bodies.

God I hope they come to Memphis. Saw Megadeth last year in March and Motorhead with the Foo Fighters, and they were awesome

Just got back from seeing Dream Theater (with opener Trivium) live. Best concert I've ever been to so far. And that's saying something considering how unimaginably and incomprehensibly bad Trivium is. Holy shit was that the worst 45ish minutes I've ever seen at a concert. And they weren't that bad as far as their playing. It's just their music is SO DAMN BAD.
But yeah, if you EVER have a chance to see DT live, DO IT.

Trivium is an insult to metalcore. And that's saying a lot because metalcore in general is pretty bad.
Really, the only metalcore I can stand is SOME Machine Head and what I've heard from All That Remains (which isn't much, but I haven't heard a song I can't stand from them. Their music is pretty inoffensive all around I've found. I mean, they aren't particularly good, but they aren't particularly bad either).

Listening to Jose Gonzalez. Really good indie folk. :U
Now I'm listening to Dream Theater's Awake. It's good so far, but I don't like Kevin Moore on the keys.
LaBrie has an interesting edge to his voice on this album too. Dunno what everyone's going on about a "darker" sound on this album. Maybe I'm just comparing this to their recent output or something, but I dunno. It's not bad though, but so far it isn't competing for my favorite DT albums.
Right now (not including Awake), my listing of DT albums would be something like:
Metropolis Pt. 2 > Six Degrees > Systematic Chaos > Octavarium > Images and Words > Black Clouds and Silver Linings > A Dramatic Turn of Events
Maybe. I gotta listen to Images and Words and Octavarium more. All I know is that I'm not huge on Dream Theater's earlier stuff (if Awake is any indication). The sound is just kinda... dated sounded. Too stereotypical 90's sounding. Some songs on those early albums are really good though like Pull Me Under.
*listening to the song Innocence Faded*
Ah. Dream Theater's channeling their inner Triumph for this song. Lol. So far the second half of Awake is far better than the first half.

I listened to Images and Words and forgot most of it.
Honestly, I don't think DT will ever top their super album (Metropolis though Octavarium can sorta be listened to straight through, intentionally). The composition and song writing was just too good, and while Systematic Chaos was also a quality album, I felt it just didn't have the same over quack my stingray bloo kicking power that those four had.

Yeah, I'd have to say Metropolis Pt. 2 through Systematic Chaos was their quality output, with everything else being maybe a few notches below.
I still have to listen to Train of Thought though.
Anyways, Awake was good. Second half of the album was far superior than the first half. Dunno where people are getting the idea that Awake is Dream Theater's "masterpiece".
